The winner of the $723 million Mega Millions jackpot has come forward to accept their winnings through the limited liability company LaKoma Island Investments, LLC. According to Maine Lottery officials, the winner has chosen to remain anonymous and opted for a lump sum pre-tax cash payment of $723,564,144. LaKoma Island Investments is a limited liability company headquartered in the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands that was established to help facilitate the payment of lottery winnings.
This is the second time this month that the lottery has been won by a limited liability company. Just last week, a $13 million winner accepted their winnings through a limited liability company, LaKoma Island Investments LLC. The Maine Lottery stated that the person opted for the pre-tax cash payment of $9,125,323.
The relationship between LaKoma Island Investments and the anonymous Maine Lottery winners is still not clear. It is believed that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its investment arm have some involvement with the limited liability company, LaKoma Island Investments LLC. This is the same Church that owns Beneficial Life Insurance, a company headquartered in Utah that specializes in annuities.
