Target Corporation recently announced a recall of 204,000 weighted blankets after two children reportedly died in them. Additionally, its store in Omaha, Nebraska, where a gunman opened fire before being shot and killed by police, will be closed until further notice. In other news, a Target store in the Buffalo, New York area took in around 25 stranded travelers over Christmas weekend and provided them shelter from a snowstorm.

The recall of the weighted blankets was sparked after two children died in them from suffocation. The blankets have been linked to similar incidents in the past, and Target has urged customers to immediately stop using them. The weighted blankets, which are marketed as providing a calming sensation, are filled with plastic or glass beads and are typically used to help people with autism or anxiety.

Meanwhile, Target has closed its Omaha store until further notice, after a gunman opened fire in the store on December 10. The incident left two people dead, including the gunman, and four people injured. Target is reportedly working with the Omaha Police Department to investigate the shooting.

In more positive news, a Target store in the Buffalo, New York area took in around 25 stranded travelers over Christmas weekend and provided them shelter from a snowstorm. The store stayed open late to accommodate the travelers, and provided them with food and blankets.

In terms of its financial results, Target has put up three quarters of disappointing earnings results while trying to clear through excess inventory and woo price-sensitive customers. On the Nasdaq, semiconductor stocks have been in the spotlight lately, and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD 0.29%) stock was on the rise early Tuesday after an analyst upgrade. CVS Health Corp., Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. and Target Corp. have all announced store closings due to the coronavirus pandemic.
