Anonymous winner of the $723 million Mega Millions jackpot chooses LaKoma Island Investments LLC to collect winnings.

The mystery and excitement around the $723 million Mega Millions jackpot have been solved. The winner has come forward anonymously through a limited liability company, LaKoma Island Investments LLC, to accept their winnings.

The Maine Lottery announced on January 13, 2021 that the person, who chose the pre-tax cash payment of $723,564,144, accepted their winnings through a limited liability company, LaKoma Island Investments LLC. The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous for now, purchased the winning ticket at a store in the city of Lewiston, Maine.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its investment arm have ownership in LaKoma Island Investments LLC. This is not the first time the Church has used its investment arm to facilitate a major winnings payout.

The Mega Millions jackpot was the fourth largest in the game’s history. It was the biggest jackpot for any Maine Lottery game since 2017. The $723 million jackpot was the second largest jackpot ever won in the US.

The Maine Lottery has had an incredible year in 2020. Many large jackpots have been won throughout the year, including the $456 million Powerball jackpot in June and $2 million scratch ticket prize in August.

The person came forward anonymously through the limited liability company LaKoma Island Investments, according to a statement from Maine Lottery.

The winner of the $723 million jackpot had the option to receive their winnings in either an annuity or pre-tax cash payment. Annuity payments are paid out over a period of 30 years, with the winner receiving an estimated $723 million over the course of the 30 years. The pre-tax cash payment option allows the winner to receive the full $723 million in winnings, but with a much larger lump sum.

The winner of the $723 million Mega Millions jackpot chose the pre-tax cash payment option, and accepted their winnings through the limited liability company LaKoma Island Investments, LLC.

The winner purchased their ticket at the Hannaford store in Lewiston, Maine, according to the Maine Lottery. The store will receive a $500,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since September 15, 2020, when the winning numbers were first drawn. The winning numbers for the $723 million jackpot are: 8-20-14-17-39 and Mega Ball 10.
